Tim Flattery 是美国著名Art Center College of Design娱乐设计系系主任，同时也是一位概念设计家及电影特效设计师，自1988年从事电影行业，他的作品包括我们熟悉的《饥饿游戏》、《绿巨人》、《变形金刚》、《加勒比海盗》、《亡灵宝藏》、《蜘蛛侠II》、《拯救大兵瑞恩》、《黑衣人》等等。他除了作为一个概念艺术家及在电影界特效的职业生涯，他还在沃尔特·迪斯尼幻想工程和奇美拉设计进行创造性的工作，在娱乐艺术、EA Games品牌和Spinmaster工作。Tim目前正作为一个概念艺术家在Marvel和迪斯尼就职。

Tim Flattery先生由阿森特（北京）艺术设计中心聘请，将于2015年4月23至24日在“Create Change”设计论坛中面对面与您分享他与好莱坞导演工作的经历。

您曾经与电影行业中某些最知名导演合作过。有什么因素会使一个导演令人觉得很容易或者很难合作？
Tim：当一个导演对他的电影有一个很清晰的想法并且能够把它非常明确有力地表达出来时，与其合作起来是最容易的。反之当他或她并不知道自己想要什么的时候则是最难以合作的。

那您是如何跟他们合作的呢？（有些什么是概念设计师们需要知道的？）
Tim：工作过程可能会因为导演的关系而变得困难。很多时候你需要每个礼拜都跟他们见面报告你的工作进度。也有很多时候制片设计师会代表你的作品去跟导演沟通。



您会把同一个设计程序用在您的每一部电影上吗？
Tim：不会。设计程序会在不同题材间根据电影主题的内容、画面以及感觉的变化而改变。另外，程序也根据与你合作的导演或者制片设计师他们自己的工作流程而改变。

为什么概念设计师对于电影的成功如此重要？
Tim：这有许多原因。其中之一是概念设计师要与制片设计师联手建立起整个电影的画面以及感觉的所有要素。举个例子，在一个科幻电影里面，设计师需要负责太空船的外观以及内部设计。他们会参与语言、调控板以及防护服色调的设计。很多时候概念设计师会在电影开发过程中被雇用来制作模拟画面以帮助电影工作室来决定是否启用该理念。

2014你来讲座的感受是什么？
Tim: 去年九月的讲座，到了第二天，大家活跃起来了，我感觉特别好，大家都是很有才华的人。刚开始大家比较安静，我更希望我们更多的互动，随时提问，随时打断我。我也愿意跟大家学习，创意都是碰撞得来的。我想，我还希望和上次优秀的导演，制片人，设计师一起做工作坊，非常有意思。我也希望有一天，我能把这里优秀的人请到美国去给我们的学生讲课。

Tim Flattery is the Chair of Entertainment Design, Art Center College of Design, a multi-talented creative concept artist and designer with expertise in concept development, design, fabrication and story for the entertainment industry. In a career spanning more than 25 years, he has worked on some of the biggest films for some of the most famous directors in the world including Steven Spielberg, Robert Zemeckis and Michael Bay. Among the number of highly anticipated films he has worked on are “Star Trek 3,” “Tomorrowland” and “Captain America” “Winter Soldier” Previously he has designed custom vehicles such as the Batmobile for “Batman Forever,” The Fantastical for “Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer,” the Amphibicopter and other vehicles for “A.I. Artificial Intelligence.”
Mr. Tim Flattery will share his experience in Hollywood at Create Change Design Forum to be held from April 23 to 24, 2015. Visit www.accdchina.com for more information.　 You’ve worked with some of the biggest Directors in the film industry. What makes a Director easy or difficult to work with?
Tim: A director is most easy to work with when they have a clear vision for their film and can communicate that vision in an articulate manner. It can be difficult to work for a director who does not know what he or she wants.
How you work with them? (Something concept designer need to know?)
Tim: The process can be different depending on the director. In a lot of cases you will meet with them weekly for an update on your progress. In many cases the production designer will present your work to the director for feedback.
Do you use the same creative process for each of your films?
Tim: No, the creative process changes from project to project depending on the subject matter and look feel of the film. The process can also be different based on the director or production designer you're working for in regards to their workflow.
Why is the concept designer so important to the success of the film?
Tim: There are many reasons, one of which is the concept designer establishes the look and feel of elements in the film along with the production designer. For example, in a science-fiction movie, the designer will design the spaceships exterior and interior. They will articulate design language, pallet and overall tone. In many cases the concept designer will be hired during the development of a film to generate art work depicting the look to help the studio decide whether to greenlight it or not.
What is your experience in last September?
Tim: The talent I met in last September really impressed me. Especially the second day of the forum, everyone became active. I hope we can communicate more, ask me anytime you want. Then we can be more creative through our discussion.　I would like to meet them again. It was very interesting. I hope in the future we can invite successful designers to our class too.
